I had a rather startling thought tonight that I would like to share. We all know the Lord's prayer. I was thinking specifically about the line, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven." So what exactly does that mean? Are we to just sit around and wait and expect God to come down and set up His kingdom here on earth? I think that's what many believe. But what if..................that's not what it means.
In the NT, Jesus preaches "Seek ye first The Kingdom of God". Hmmmm.......and then Jesus tells us what the Kingdom is using parables. In an earlier post, I described how Christianity is a way of being and how Christ taught exactly what this way of being is. Could it be that this way of being is how the Kingdom is built? Could this line in the prayer mean that we are to work to begin building the Kingdom of God here on earth by living the way Christ taught us?
And after I had that thought, I wondered what was the purpose of John the Baptist? Why did Christ need someone to prepare the way? John preached about repentence and prepared the way for Christ. And Christ preached about seeking the Kingdom and prepared the way for the Kingdom. So John was the messenger for Christ and Christ was the messenger for the Kingdom. In order to show repentence, the people needed to be baptized. What then is required from us to seek ye first the Kingdom? I believe we are required to BE Christians.
gently, laura
