Can we be cruel to God? Yes. And we are. We are? you ask. Yes. Every time we give in to fear and every time we refuse to use faith to overcome fear.
When we give into fear, we are saying to God, "I don't trust you Father." and "I'm smarter than you Father." and "I don't need you Father, my fear tells me what to do." Is this not cruel?
We want God to lead us in our lives, but that requires that we trust Him when He says, "Go here.". The most powerful question that was ever put to me was, "Are you going to let fear keep you where you're at?" No, I'm not because I want God's will in my life.
We all wonder why God doesn't bless us more. But if we are so busy "holding" on to fear, how can we "receive" anything that God has for us? The Bible clearly tells us that God did not give us a spirit of fear and Christ clearly asks, "Does worrying add one moment to your life?"
Christ even went further and said that while the spirit is willing, the flesh is weak. But that is no excuse for holding on to fear either. None of us has the courage to do all things but the beauty of the Good News is that we don't have to. We can be as weak as babes and do nothing on our own. But when we have faith, then we KNOW that God will help us. And isn't this what Paul found joy in? That he rejoiced in his own weakness because he knew that God would help him and that in helping him, brings glory unto Himself? And didn't Christ Himself say that with God ALL things are possible?
Have we become so accustomed to being fearful that we have come to accept this as a normal state of being? It is not. So how does fear "enable" us. Well, fear is a lovely excuse for shirking our responsibility, isn't it? And shirking our responsibility is one thing this society does well. We all decry the loss of our freedom but it was not taken from us, we GAVE it to our government every time we looked to them to solve a problem because we were too afraid of 1) taking a stand and risking the alienation of our peers 2)or too afraid of making the necessary sacrifice because we feared lack or 3) too afraid of offering up ideas because we feared ridicule if we were wrong. The list of fears that keep us paralyzed is endless.
Our enemy is not some unknown terrorist in some foreign country. Our true enemy is fear and it has already established itself in our hearts and in our homes. No one can come to Christ without faith and faith means the absence of fear. I am only now beginning to realize what a insidious abomination fear is to my Father. And I am putting up a good fight to keep fear out of my life. I am a mother and I love my children dearly. There isn't anything in the world I wouldn't do to help my children be happy and healthy. How sad and cruel is it then for us to expect any less from our Father. And this is what the Bible means when it says, "You cannot enter the kingdom unless you become like one of these little ones." When our children come to us for help do they doubt that we will be there for them? Then why do we doubt our Father. And if we doubt our Father, how can we teach our children to trust Him?
