Have you ever wondered if God gets disappointed? I think He must. Look at what He has done for us. He created our reality. He gave us life. He provides for us. He even saved us from ourselves by sacrificing His own son.
And what does He ask from us? To love and believe on His son. And how are we to love His son....by being obedient. Oh, oh, there's that word. Obedient. I can almost feel you cringe at the thought. And yet, how many rules does God have for us? 10; which can be summed up in 2. Love God first, love your fellow humans second.
And how many rules does the country you live in have? Hundreds. So why is it we have no problem following the hundreds of rules that serve the establishment and not necessarily the public but when it comes to God's rules, we consistently fail?
I think it is our mindset. Most of us only think about God on Sunday as an obligation, or when we want something from Him. That is a one sided relationship and any one sided relationship is selfish. That mindset sees God as if He were a drive-thru miracle provider. Please do not mistake the golden arches of God as if they were the golden arches of MacDonalds where you place your order and then drive around to the little window on the side and pick your order up!
We are to treat God as if He were our Father because that is exactly what He is, our Heavenly Father. Imagine this:
Your child comes rushing up to you. His little face all flushed with effort and his eyes sparkling with anticipation. He grabs your hand and pulls you towards his bedroom saying, "C'mon! C'mon! I want to show you something!"
You get to your child's room and there is a clear spot in the middle of the floor. All the toys have been pushed against the walls. You see that the covers have been pulled up on the bed but they are all wrinkled and crumpled. Your child looks up into your face, his eyes shining like stars and he says, "Look what I did for you! I cleaned my room up just like you asked me to!"
Are you going to start yelling at your child for not getting it perfectly right? Or are you going to see the pure and innocent intent of your child's heart and take him in your arms and say, "What a beautiful thing you did! Thank you!" But.....as a parent, and knowing that your responsibility is to teach your child, won't you then say, "Hey Bud! Want me to show you a cool trick for making your bed next time?
What makes you think God would treat your efforts any less loving? So when was the last time, you went running to your Heavenly Father with a flushed face and eyes full of anticipation and say, "Look what I did for you Father.........just because you asked me to!"
gently,laura
