Why isn't God in the material world? Where we could see Him? The first answers I have for you; are more questions.
Would you want Him to be here? Wouldn't He be rather small then? And what if He didn't look the way you think He should look? Would you be drawn to Him? If God was in the material realm, He could only be in one place at a time. So as people lay dying for whatever reason, how would He choose who to be with as they drew their last breath? Would He want to deny any of His children the comfort of believing that He was with them as they pass from this world? If God was in the material realm, wouldn't that give us the impression that He is finite when in fact, He is not? And need I remind you that the last time God was in the material realm, we crucified Him because we didn't like what He had to say?
How do we KNOW that God is NOT in this world? Could it be that we do not recognize Him? I mean, really, does anyone KNOW what God looks like? How do we know that the driver we just cussed out for failure to yield was not in fact, God? How do we know that God doesn't occasionally take vacations into the material world?
If you were to come home tomorrow and all your valuables were gone, would you have to SEE the robber to know you were robbed? By the same token, when we look at Creation do we have to see the creator to know we were created?
Has science removed God from this world? When you look at a rainbow, you understand the prism effect of mist and light. That is what sits in the back of your mind. But what if you didn't know science? Then a rainbow would be magical colored ribbons of air floating in the sky eh? Would you be able to see God in a rainbow then?
When we consider the size of the universe and then look at the tiny dots on a frogs back, or the lacy snowflake, or the veins on a butterfly's wing and we realize that God created ALL of it; how can we not see Him? Man has not CREATED anything. We never have and we never will. All we have ever done and all we can ever do is mix and match the stuff that God already put here. The next time you open a package of cookies and eat one, realize that even though the wrapper on that package says Nabisco, all the ingredients are provided by God.
Some say we came from some primordial soup and everything was an accident and yet isn't it interesting that there are thousands upon thousands of fish, insect, reptile and mammal species on this earth and 99% of them have male/female counterparts? What are the odds of that? I have always said, that God is in the details and when we look at the details, really look, we see God.
Consider pagans and Native American Indians; they see God IN HIS creation. Are they wrong? They realize that all life is sacred. In Genesis, God created the earth for man and He declared it GOOD. We are a PART of God's creation; and if we spent more time in Nature, we would be better able to see God and understand how we fit in with the whole. Is this why this evil world has put us into buildings and away from nature? To separate us from the environment God created us for; to keep us from Him? And square buildings? Do you know why teepees were round? Because there is nothing in nature that is completely square. I understand this may be too “paganistic” for you but there is no verse in the Bible where God put Adam and Eve into a square concrete box with electrical wires completely surrounding them and declared THAT good. They lived in a garden! LOL
Mans problem is his arrogance. It has always been his problem. We only believe what we can see, feel and touch........and yet, we KNOW that dogs can smell things we cannot. We KNOW that eagles can see things we cannot. So even KNOWING that our senses are limited, we stubbornly refuse to believe in things we cannot perceive.
No one can see a germ with their naked eyes, and yet we know they exist because we get sick. No one can see an atom and yet we BELIEVE scientists when they say they exist. Why then can we not believe in God when every civilization since the beginning of time has acknowledged the existence of God?
But Science is also unwittingly putting God BACK into our world and THIS is why I study science. LOL Quantum Physics has found an energy field that is so new; it doesn't even have a name yet. Some simply call it "The Field" some call it the "God Field". This field responds to emotions and intent. And the way this field is explained, explains Gods omnipotence and omniscience.
But here is the truth. It wouldn't matter if He were here or not because we only see what we want to see. We only believe what we want to believe; what suits our purposes and our nature. Didn't Christ's time in this world prove that? He performed miracles. He raised people from the dead. What more did He need to do to "prove" He was God? And who are we to demand from the Creator that He prove Himself? How arrogant is that?????
What is it about the believer's heart that allows them to believe and acknowledge the unseen? And what is it about an atheist’s heart that doesn't allow them to believe? When greedy people look at the world, they look thru eyes of greed and therefore, they constantly scan for ways to satisfy that greed. People, who are kind and generous, look at the world thru eyes of generosity and so their eyes constantly scan for the opportunity to manifest that which they are - generous.
If you want to know what convinced me spiritually of the existence of God, it was emotions. Who can explain emotions beyond the chemical reactions that are invoked in the human body? What is more beautiful than the emotion of love? What is more exhilarating than hope? We can look at a newborn baby and see beauty, we can look at a sunset and see colors but the emotions that are invoked by these experiences are the texture of life. What meaning would life have if we had no emotions? Don't our emotions dictate our every choice? Don't we pursue happiness? And love? Why? What is the power of emotions?
And what convinced me logically that God existed; was Israel. Did you know that no other civilization since the beginning of recorded history has ever reclaimed their land and re-established their nation after they have lost it? When Israel was disbursed, they were a very small nation. What happened to the Chaldeans? The Babylonians? The Romans? They and their empires are gone. And yet today; Israel exists. God is still keeping His promise to Abraham. I need no more proof than that.
I see and feel God everywhere. I see His holiness in the regal bearing of a tree. I feel His presence in the quiet of the fog or when snow gently falls. I see His wrath and power in a thunderstorm. I see His goodness, His innocence in a newborn creature, human, animal and otherwise. I see His beauty in flowers and butterflies. I see His safety in the mountains. I hear Him calling to us in the surf of the ocean. I see His mercy in the seasons where spring always offers us a new start. I see His ancient wisdom in the stars. I see His gentleness in dandelion fluff! Where can we possibly look and NOT see God? It depends on what type of eyes we look at the world with eh?
Does this answer your question?
gently,laura
